and Athletic Performance Profile
©
"the health and performance
MAPP of
the athlete"
Infinity Fitness & Sports Institute
(IFSI) takes a holistic approach to the
development of the skills of an athlete. Before any
athlete can optimally perform, either on or off the
field, they need to be functioning as a "Healthy Moving
Unit" with all bodily systems functioning like a
symphony. Today, our society has a tendency to
"over-book" due to our demanding schedules, leaving our
health over–looked until something goes wrong.
IFSI has developed a "gold standard"
procedure called the Medical and Athletic Performance
Profile ( MAPP).
The MAPP has two parts. The
mPASS
&
pPass, are both
comprised of a full body comprehensive professional
examination to detect any movement dysfunction(s) one
may have that can affect his/her life and/or game. This
tool should by no means take the place of any screening
by a medical doctor but should be used as a complement
to medical evaluations and treatment. Often, the factors
that pediatrician and/ or other medical physicians take
into consideration when giving an athlete/client
clearance to play/exercise are the issues relating to
disease and illness, but not movement dysfunctions. For
instance, a doctor would not be likely to give
permission to play or exercise if an athlete had
hypertension or diabetes. On the other hand, if the
athlete had a flat foot that would not affect their
internal bodily functioning, the doctor would likely
give permission. That’s where the MAPP would come in.
The tool would be used to evaluate those factors that
may not otherwise raise a red flag with doctors. The
medical physicians’ roles are to treat illnesses and
detect and prevent disease. This IS NOT the role of the
MAPP.
The
MAPP’s
purpose is to detect, prevent and give advice on any
movement dysfunction(s) found that can impair one’s
ability to play sports and live a
functional
life. Having a "clean bill of health" from a doctor does
not always correlate to having the ability and/or
disability to play sports, work, and to live life to its
fullest.
The mission of the
MAPP
is to listen to …, explore …, discover…, and offer
professional advice to anyone one who is striving to
achieve an optimal "healthy moving unit." The
MAPP
is also a "good health" awareness examination, where
healthy behavior is discussed, encouraged and
recommended.
PLEASE NOTE: THE
MAPP
IS RECOMMENDED TO ALL ATHLETES/CLIENTS EVERY YEAR EVEN
IF WE DO NOT TRAIN YOU...WE WOULD BE GLAD TO EXTEND THIS
WONDERFUL SERVICE TO ANYONE WHO VALUES INJURY
PREVENTION!
mPASS
The first component of the
MAPP
is the Medical Pre-Athletic Sport
Screening © (mPASS) which is a thorough,
comprehensive, multi-dimensional, professional and
personal evaluation lead by a board certified
professional. This is very important
because it focuses on prevention and wellness. During
the mPASS, we will, within our scope of practice,
try to detect existing and/or potential movement
dysfunction(s) as they relate to the athlete/client’s
cardio-vascular, nuero-muscular-skeletal systems. The
mPASS is performed by Vince Burke,BS,MPT,CSCS,*DPT,
a Board Certified, Master-prepared licensed physical
therapist and sports trainer who specializes in
orthopedics and sports medicine. (SEE BIOGRAPHY) Those
who have participated in the program are pleased with
the results. A parent of a recent participant, who has
received the MAPP as part of the New Jersey Mariners
Baseball program, a youth development baseball program,
says:
| "I
found it fascinating to watch Vincent Burke
administer MAPP to my son Kyle. Vince Burke was
wonderful with Kyle and a pleasure to be with. His
insights and advice were outstanding. I have
complete confidence in his observations and
recommendations. I commend you for bringing on a
group like Infinity Fitness & Sports Institute and
implementing their programs. Again, I am so
impressed with the ENTIRE New Jersey Mariner’s --
top to bottom -- and we haven’t even had a
practice yet."

pPASS
The second component to the
MAPP
is the performance Pre-Athletic
Sports Screening (pPASS). This
component measures the ability of the athlete to reduce,
stabilize & produce forces in all planes of motion, as
well as the ability to move and react. The pPASS
is a series of tests that are completed in the onset of
the athlete’s training and is performed again
periodically throughout his/her participation with
IFSI. It is vitally
important to evaluate and re-evaluate throughout the
training cycle. This will give us information about the
strengths and weaknesses of the athlete and also guide
us in designing the proper program and monitoring
progress. If adjustments in the program are necessary,
they will be made accordingly. It is important to note,
that each athlete is an individual, and these
assessments will occur at different times. Therefore,
tests may vary from athlete to athlete. The pPASS
is performed by, a Performance Enhancement Specialist.
All findings from the
MAPP
will be discussed in detail. If any of the objective
information acquired needs further medical observation
and/or attention, a recommendation will be made. Please
note, at times a medical clearance may be needed to
perform in our institution and we will inform you if
this is necessary.
Please note this Medical and Performance Pre
–Athletic Sport Screening is not part of any package
we offer.
To schedule an appointment, please call the office at
